About Us
The Tradewinds Subdivision was established in January 1958.
The reason for the name is unknown, but while Sanibel doesn't experience “tradewinds” per se, there are, even in summer, cooling afternoon breezes coming off the Gulf of Mexico.
Jamaica Drive was the first street in the Tradewinds Subdivision to be settled with the oldest cottage built in 1958. In the mid-60s Tahiti Drive cottages started to be built and continued through until the mid-70s. In 1977, the City of Sanibel required all new homes to be built on pilings, with their living floor above flood elevation.
The Tradewinds Subdivision includes homes on Jamaica Drive (western boundary), Tahiti Drive (eastern boundary) and Tradewinds Drive (along the Gulf).
The Tradewinds of Sanibel Homeowners Association had its first meeting in 1972 and has hosted annual meetings ever since. The Tradewinds HOA maintains a private beach access for property owners and guests only. A shaded path of native plants and trees leads beach lovers to sand, sea and shells.
The Tradewinds Subdivision has a reputation for having one of the best beachfronts on the island, and one of the friendliest neighborhoods, welcoming owners, visitors, and leashed pets alike.
